The Fudan Fuzhong Overseas Foundation held its third annual fundraising luncheon at Puttanesca, New York on March 14 2009. More than 50 alumni and friends, some coming as far as Madison, Toronto, and Shanghai, joined the event and showed their support. It was a great opportunity for the participants to stay connected with old friends, or make new ones.
Fanghua Jiang ('84), president of the foundation, delivered the opening speech. Since 2007, the foundation has established three scholarship programs, including "Social Contribution Award", "Performing Arts Award", and "Give-A-Hand Scholarship". A total of thirteen scholarships were awarded through these programs in the past year. Despite the economic downturn, the foundation raised more than US$23,000 to support these programs, through collective efforts of all the foundation members in 2008.
Following the foundation speech, Frank Cohn, founder and executive director of Globalhood Inc. delivered a keynote speech on his entrepreneurial non-profit work of global reach.
As with last year, the event was a great success. Over US$13,000 were received and pledged during the marketing of this event, more than half way on the Foundation's 2009 fund raising goal of $25,000.
