30 avid poker plays gathered on Thursday September 6th, 2012 at S. Dynasty in Mid-town Manhattan for a night of exciting No-limit Texas Hold'em poker tournament organized by the Fudan Fuzhong Overseas Foundation.
Following a delicious 8-course Chinese buffet dinner, fund-raising director Minhua Zhang ('00) welcomed supporters of the Foundation and briefly introduced the fund-deployment programs. After reviewing the house rules, volunteer dealers Monica Liu, Brenda Zeng, Allan Fan, Ye Zhou ('96) and Hongguo He ('96) kicked off the tournament. As soon as the cards are dealt, the atmosphere tensed up.
As the night progresses, lucky draws and bad beats pile up, so are the chips in front of some contestants. Others chose to rebuy, keeping their hope alive. At the end of the night, Ben Tso and Chen Chen tied for the first place, followed by Chu Zheng, Kang Ji and Alex Fang. They took home awards and pride.
The event offered a great opportunity for participants to network with fellow players and non-players as well. A total of $1,200 was donated to the general purpose fund for the Foundation.
